The 1940s

A dance card from the Homecoming dance at Barberton High School back in 1940.
No dancers are lined up for this young woman because she's busy helping Johnny in the percussion section of the band.

And speaking of that Fletcher gal, here she is again.
She must have learned well how to play the drums because here she is in the VFW fife and drum corps.

And speaking of the VFW, how about an Easter program for the Brecksville VFW Hospital, including a xylophone duet by Fletcher and Taylor.
This Fletcher-Taylor thing seems to be getting serious.

Below, letters of gratitude from the VFW to both Miss Fletcher and Mr. Taylor

And now an operetta at Highland Junior High School, Barberton, Ohio on May 17, 1940.
Winnifred Fletcher is one of the main characters in the play, and Johnny Taylor leads the orchestra.

Less than a week later, the Fletcher-Taylor duo is on the xylophone again.
Those two must be spending a lot of time together, eh?

And finally, here is the cast of a Barberton High School production of Pirates of Penzance, performed by the graduating class of the year 1943.
I helped produce the show and gave lessons to a number of the student performers.
